Things I know- Reemployed

This is a new, different things I know. One that I haven't been able to write since the inception of my blog last summer. This things I know stems from the fact that I now have a job again.....

  • The interview is the most anxiety-ridden part of the job....the job will be stressful because it's the holiday season
  • My background check will be clean.
  • Working retail wasn't my first choice, but I can make it work
  • It'll take away from what I do outside of work
  • It'll be nice to finally have a paycheck again, and hopefully this will be the beginning of steady employment again for me

Things I know- A Month Away

It hasn't been that long, has it? Oh yes, it has. Here's what I know:
  • Time...goes by....so slowwwwly....(imagine me singing "Unchained Melody")
  • I absolutely hate applying for jobs, especially those character parts of the application that are 50 pages long with 5 questions per page (online) and often ask redundant questions
  • A little time away can do a lot of good for your thoughts, and can help spark ideas
  • October and pollen are evil, and every year, they attack me and my sinuses. Argh! This is part of the reason I've not been around. Allergies >> Sinus pressure >> headaches >> not wanting to type a lot/think a lot/do a lot.
  • Being in the sort of state above makes me look lazy
  • My résumé sucks, and probably will for quite a while
  • Taking the exam to be a social worker is extremely expensive
  • The Rangers better play a better game tomorrow night, or I will be extremely unhappy.
I've jumped on the bandwagon a little bit early with these posts because they're simpler than some of the others, and have a sort of outline which I can follow. I've got a headache right now which is enough to tell me that I am going to stop now, finish facebooking and twitter, perhaps play a few games on my phone, and go to bed. I might make a "Grateful For" post tomorrow, because I already know what I want that one to be about. For now, deuces.

Things I know

Things I know will be very simple this week.

  • Not having a schedule is very annoying
  • I need a life
  • I also need a job and money
  • Being a social worker is expensive even though they don't get paid much
  • In order to have something to write about, you have to do stuff. =/

Things I Know- When I'm Down

When I'm down, things get hairy. I've been down a bit physically, with headaches and being congested and overall a not-well feeling. My blog has been a bit neglected, and I feel like a neglectful mother who has let their blog run amok whilst feeling awful. My things I know this week-

  • I know that it does make me feel a tad better when someone asks how I'm feeling, even if all I have to say is "still the same" or "still awful". It helps me feel like I still exist. Which leads to....
  • I know that feeling nonexistent is a bad feeling. I really like feeling like I exist.
  • I know that resumé writing sucks. I don't have much to put on there anyway. It's really difficult to make up for some of what I lack, and it's difficult still, when I don't have that much, to fit it all on one page.
  • I know that I find it hard to list my good qualities, even on a good day. Why? That I don't know. I do know that I have problems finding the good in myself, but I have no problems pointing out the good things in someone else.
  • I know that I have to get all these boxes out of my room before my head explodes. I just don't know why I don't have the energy to do so.

Things I know- Tardy!

Okay, so my Things I Know post is a little late and my Grateful For post was a little early- I got mixed up this week. Why? That's something I don't know. Here's what I do know:

  • The American healthcare system sucks....and is way too expensive. It's not helpful at all for those who are "just making it"....just those who have money, or those without insurance who can go to free clinics and get assistance from drug companies and whatnot. I'm not in either category at the moment.
  • Mom's birthday was today. I love cheesecake. I love the Olive Garden. It was great :)
  • I love, love, love my class ring. I got it today *squee!!*

  • My resume is awful. My former teacher will look at it tomorrow and wonder where the student he taught went.
  • My brother will not be growing out his mutton chops. Bwahahaha the power of women!!!
  • Words and conversation have the power to change lives

Things I Know- Not Feeling Well

Another uneventful week, really. The things I write this week are completely random because...well, that's the way my life is getting. Let's get this going, because I'm starting to feel like I don't know much just writing this post.
  • I know that I like new things (like my mattress and my class ring) but I know that I can't always have them
  • I know that I want all the stuff cleaned out of my room so things can at least go back to semi-normal
  • I know that it's not resting that is making my head hurt- it's something in my nose-sinus-whatever area.
  • I know that there will be a lot of memorials this weekend (September 11th)
  • I know that some people are EFFING HYPOCRITES AND HYPOCRITES GET ON MY NERVES and I shouldn't say any more about that, although I'll probably get asked about it. >.>
  • I know that I love music.
  • I know that a lot of jobs are going to turn me down now because I'm "overqualified" even though I'm just one piece of paper different than I was a month ago. Whatever.
  • I know that someone will probably cow upon reading this, but I also know that I've stopped caring what certain people think about what I write here because it's my blog and I can talk about what I want to talk about.
And that's it. I'm in a bit of an ill mood, too, to go along with this, so I'm going to shut it down here. I'm also feeling sick like I should lie down, although my parents would say it just means I should go out, because you feel sick if you don't go out enough. >.> Maybe I'll feel better next week? Let's hope so...

Things I Know- I have a blog

Another mostly lazy week. We did move most of the stuff back into my room, except the crap I'd like to weed through first to pull out the stuff I don't need. No pictures- lots of boxes and mess. Once things are sorted...maybe. There's still a lot of work to be done

Things I know:

  • When you have no timeline, you lose track of time. I wrote a calendar for September and started it on the wrong day. Seriously. *facepalm*
  • My blogoversary is on Monday. Wheeee!!!!!!!!
  • It takes a lot of work to move stuff back into a room...more than it does to move stuff out of a room. Especially when it's the same room.
  • People don't always respond right away. Be prepared for this. It's because people usually have lives. Unlike you, Ashley. Get a life, Ashley!
  • It's not very nice to berate yourself. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen. See above.
  • I like research. I don't hate research. In fact, I love research. I hate statistics. For the longest time, I thought I hated research, when really, it was the statistics part that I hated. Thank you, Dr. Bron, for helping me sort through this dilemma. Now I can actually say I love research!!! (She sorted it with me on twitter...thanks!!)
  • People can care-more than you think- through a computer or phone- overseas or a few states away. The internet has broken down walls, county lines, state lines, and country borders. There are no longer the same boundaries as before- just remember to keep some boundaries. Boundaries are good, just be reasonable.
And that's all. Being cooped up isn't really doing much for my knowledge. I don't know much more than I did last week. At least I know something....

Things I know: Break it down

Time for Things I know!!!

I know a lot of things this week!! Most of them are...well, from the past day or two. The most eventful two days of the past couple weeks since I finished school. Pitiful, I know.

Things have been broken down this week.

We broke everything in my room down, and we took it out to the garage, so that we could get the carpet in.

  • I know that it's not easy moving a lot of crap at once
  • I know that it's not easy to decide what you want to keep and what you don't want to keep
  • I know that I don't like to wake up in the morning to 2 guys on the front porch while I'm still in my pajamas, and find out that they're here to install carpet...uh, you were supposed to call my dad and let him know the carpet came in. Thanks for the warning!
  • I know that I love my new carpet.
  • I know that I don't want my dad to paint my walls any other color than blue.

You could say my car broke down in Arlington today- or you could just say it "wouldn't start" because the battery decided to go dead after I ran my errands at the university and whatnot.

  • I now know that people in Arlington will ignore you when you have your hood up on your car
  • I know that people in Arlington will even deny you help if you ask for a jump when you know that your battery is dead on your car and all you need is a jump
  • I know that it sucks sitting and watching people drive by while waiting for someone to agree to jump your car when it's 110F outside (that's 43C...and taken in the shade, not including heat index, yo)
  • I know that I don't want to depend on the battery in my car right now because of today's incidents
  • I know that I now have all my things in order for graduation, and not to depend on anyone for anything in Arlington!!!
  • I know that it's still not going to get much cooler in Texas for a while--see picture below
And the forecast usually gets hotter as the day gets closer. No comfort in that 103 or 101.

And that is what I know....this week. Oh, and did I mention I love my new carpet? Ahhh....

Oh, and one more thing I know!! And this shocked me!! A pair of jeans that I couldn't wear last month...now fits me! I wore them all day today, looked at them at dinner, and noticed that my everyday fit-me jeans stain wasn't there. I was like...wait, what jeans am I wearing?? OH MY these jeans didn't fit me before I NEED A PICTURE!!!!
So I took a picture. And put it online. Of course!
I know tomorrow, I will be going to get my ring size, so I can order my university class ring. Yay!! Really? *faint*

OK, I think that's it.

Huzzah!

Things I know- Lazy Week Edition 1

And a lazy week it has been. I've looked for jobs, but they've been few and far between that I've met even *most* of the qualifications for. I found one that I met the majority of the qualifications, but fell short on one. It's disheartening. Without further adieu...

  • Qualifications are qualifications. If you're missing one, you're missing one. They don't want you.
  • Texas is still really hot. We're probably going to break that record for number of 100+ days in one single summer.
  • Doing the same thing every day gets boring
  • Having a bookshelf fall on your arm smarts
  • It will take a lot of effort to move everything out of my room for re-carpeting...and apparently, that's happening next week.
  • When you have something to write about, you blog a lot more often.
  • I will have new carpet in a week
  • Jobs in the market really are scarce. My situation really doesn't help. I really am screwed. They lied to me. I feel cheated.
And that concludes Things I Know for this week. Tune in next week for...probably more of the same. I might be relocated to somewhere else in the house for this encounter, as we will be in the re-carpeting process, or, if they're done by Thursday, I may have new carpet by then. Don't know if I'll be back at home base yet or not. We'll see.

Things I Know- Transition Edition

As many of you probably already know, and have been hearing about for months on end, I finished the last of my courses today. Of course, the world has a lovely way of flipping me the bird on really important days, and laughing at me by coming up with the worst possible punishments, making me stress out more than I probably should, and it seems like everything goes wrong, but in the end, things somehow turn out, for the most part, OK. Today did. Thankfully. I don't know my grades yet, but I've finished everything. So, for the future, these are the things I know that I'll be using....

I know I (now) have a college education, but that doesn't mean I know everything

I know that I can finish things

I know that I have the capability to do what I want, if I put my mind to it

I know that, in three months, I might have my license

I know that all things take time

I know that I've got a long road ahead of me

I know that life won't be easy just because I have a piece of paper

I know that I still will have to work for things, they won't be handed to me

I know I still have responsibilities, even in the down time when I don't have a job or license

I know that I'll eventually have a job, but it may not be the exact one I want

I know that not all things in life are easily obtained (i.e. degrees)

I know that I will have to continue to learn and gain insight (well, that and I would have to in order to keep a license if I get one, anyway)

I know that I love social work

I know I kind of wrote it last minute, but I had a lot to do in prep for finals and writing a paper, so I hope that kind of waives my writing in advance duties. I did write other stuff though...so maybe I should have included this? No, I think this is better that I did it after instead of before. I like that I'm doing it now. After the fact.

Thanks for tuning in for "Things I know- Transition Edition"

Next week, I will probably be dying from boredom, anhedonia, and a week of résume writing, checking, application writing, job hunting, etc. I may be a bit cynical. =/

Things I know about change

Change is scary.

I will be going through a major change next Thursday, when I go to my last class of my undergraduate career. Then, suddenly, I'll be a college graduate. I'll be finished. I'll lose all the university privilege stuff that I've been using, the library, the username that I can log in and read all the boring fascinating research articles, parking on campus, and whatnot.

Everyone experiences change differently. I experience change through major and almost disabling anxiety that makes me so anxious that it's almost impossible to construct and understand formal language.

Change doesn't have to be this scary, but each person's interpretation and environment, as well as previous responses to change and outcomes can affect their predisposition to anxiety and whatnot.

Change can be good or bad, but you never know until you actually experience the change.

The same change can be viewed differently by different individuals. My graduation from college is being met by excitement by most people, but I am to the point of fear and almost dread because I don't know what comes next, since I don't have my social work licensure yet, and that may take until November.

I'm wanting to handle this change in a more positive way, but it's hard when you finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, but you've been in the tunnel so long that the light blinds you, and you can't make out what is on the outside. It's been a 6-year long journey through university, with many stops, very many slow and steady semesters, trying to take it at my own pace and just make it through, and now that I've sped up a little and I'm finishing, it is scary. It's hard to describe to someone who hasn't been there.

I'm not putting pressure on myself. Well, I mean, I am, because with a degree, you're supposed to be able to *more easily* get a job, but that's not always the case. I want it to happen. I need to move out, I need to move on. I need to make changes but it's scary when everything changes at once.

Another thing I know about change: it isn't easy. It's never easy. Sometimes it's more manageable than others, but it's never simply easy. Adjustments always have to be made somewhere.

And that, everyone, is my first "Things I know" post for "Yay for Home"
Edit: as well as my first "Freaky Friday Follow"
